When we were stuck at home during COVID, I put out a series of videos called “7 Days, 7 Shots” (tennis shots, that is). The shot we’ll discuss in the above video is the forehand.
The main takeaways are listed below. Keep them in mind as you work on your forehand and you’ll have a solid stroke in no time.
Forehand For The Everyday Player:
- Step 1: “The Grip” – should be Eastern-Full Eastern
- Step 2: “Racquet Prep” – pivot with your opposite hand out
- Step 3: “Drop The Racquet” – with your opposite hand out, step and hit the ball
- Step 4: “Follow Through” – your chin should be over your shoulder and your racquet butt should be facing your opponent.
With 33 years of teaching under my belt, I have experienced that the less complicated the lesson is, the better it is for the everyday recreational player.
My system is geared toward getting players “playing” as quickly as possible. Combining traditional fundamentals with a dash of modern tactics allows the possibility for more advanced strokes. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rules.
Remember – you don’t have to be a pro to train like a pro!
