Tennis Life Magazine is always on the hunt for the best tennis tips and strategies for our readers, and for you dubs players, we hit the jackpot!
Recently, I was given a copy of the book, Doubles Domination: The Best of the Best Tips, Tactics and Strategies by Bob Allcorn to read and review, and in my honest opinion, it’s got everything we doubles players need to grow our game.
It is not your usual guide on tennis tips, tricks and tactics; it is a quest of what it takes to be the best of the best, to evolve your game—and inspired from the biggest and known names and mavens of the game. — Bob Allcorn.
Bob said it perfectly. This book (or guide) is packed with match-winning information, some of which you may use now. There are some things you may have learned in lessons and drills years ago but have forgotten about. And there are some things you may have never heard of before. And remember the times when you watched your favorite pros on TV and wondered how and even why they did what they did on the court? THAT is in the book, too!
What exactly IS in the book?
In truth, all of the above applies to me, and I’ve spent years taking private lessons, going to drills and clinics, reading books and watching the pros to better my game and get to a 4.5 ranking. I will probably never rank higher than that, but only because I don’t have the time (or money) to train that hard. I can say, however, that had I discovered Doubles Domination: The Best of the Best Tips, Tactics and Strategies years ago, I would have achieved that ranking a lot sooner!
Of all the instructional books or guides I’ve read over the years, Doubles Domination: The Best of the Best Tips, Tactics and Strategies is hands down the best single source of game-changing information for doubles (and even singles) players. It is well-organized and easy to read, and shares the tips and techniques of ATP/WTA top doubles players and coaches, including Martina, the Bryan Brothers, Gigi Fernandez, Nick Bolletieri: strategies and tactics, technique, court positioning, match-time troubleshooting, mental preparedness, practice tips, and much more!
In my opinion, this book would make an excellent guide for all levels of play. For beginners, it will be your guide for what is yet to come in your lessons and on-court experiences. For intermediate players, it will reinforce what you’ve learned so far and inspire you to learn the rest. For more advanced players, it will remind you of the things you’ve learned but forgotten over the years; it will also remind you that you don’t know it all – yet 😉
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Prior to publishing Doubles Domination: The Best of the Best Tips, Tactics and Strategies, Bob Allcorn spent 40 years as a recognized expert in pre-trial commercial litigation, a job which required him to search out his adversary’s weaknesses and strategically exploit them in order to dismantle their case. He was so well-respected in his field that a publishing company asked him to author an 800+ page treatise on the subject. It only makes sense that he would take that same focus he had as an expert litigator and apply it to his passion – tennis.
Bob is not a professional tennis player, but he literally knows everything they do. Over the years, the former litigator accumulated hundreds of pages of notes from his lessons, clinics, and camps (about 1200 hours in total) given by some of the best pros around the world. He’s also read nearly every book ever written about tennis (going back to Bill Tilden’s book published in 1929), seen nearly every video (even VHS!), and viewed countless contemporary webcasts, websites, and online tennis sites – and he’s got notes for those too! And what better way to make use of his notes spanning decades than to choose the very best and share them with all of us.
Today, Bob still plays tennis (mixed dubs with his wife), and I’ll bet he still takes notes. Could that mean there may be a Doubles Domination: Part 2? We’ll let you know!
In the meantime, Doubles Domination: The Best of the Best Tips, Tactics and Strategies can be purchased on Amazon for your Kindle or in paperback. Get a copy for yourself or as a Christmas gift to the tennis player(s) in your life!
