World No. 6 Coco Gauff parted ways with her coach Diego Moyano after a one-year partnership for what Moyano called “personal reasons.”
Numerous noteworthy achievements were made during the dynamic duo’s brief time working together, so their amicable separation has surprised many fans. Coco Gauff’s recent women’s doubles win with her partner Jessica Pegula at the 2023 Miami Open is a prime example. Over the past year, the nineteen-year-old has been steadily improving her game and winning big matches, establishing herself as one of the world’s top female tennis players.
In 2022, Coco Gauff reached the World No. 1 ranking in doubles and ended the season in the Top 10. She has set even loftier goals this year, but they won’t be achieved with Moyano as part of her team.
Just last year, Moyano joined Coco Gauff’s already impressive team, which included her father, Corey Gauff, and coach Jean-Christophe Faurel. Together, they helped the teen sensation mature as a player on the court.
The coach released a statement on his Instagram:
“Thank you! After a fantastic year where we achieve many great things I have to stop working with Coco Gauff due to my personal reasons. Thank you so much for this amazing year plenty of memories.”
He added:
“It is really a pleasure to work with you Coco, a real champion on and off the court. Want to thank Gauff’s family for the trust and support along this year. You guys have been amazing. And want to thanks as well the team that worked hard with me to achieve the goals.”
