Here at Tennis Life Magazine, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in a good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. This is why we’ve started “The Peep’s Picks”, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s the almost-5-to-5-star reviews) products and single out the most persuasive. Here, we’ve scoured through Amazon’s plethora of products to pinpoint the best lip balms for chapped lip prevention and treatment. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)
Best tinted lip balm
Smith’s Minted Rose Lip Balm
“This lip balm is fantastic. It has a smooth texture, a great minty scent, the perfect amount of tint and shine, and it isn’t too thick. It goes on very well, and lasts a long time on the lips. The tin is also a good size, and should last a while even with daily use. The product keeps my lips soft and is the best I’ve found yet. It adds a bit of shine and color, too. I would recommend this to anyone seeking a hydrating and comfortable lip balm.”
Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm
4.2 stars, 2,842 reviews
“I can’t live without this lip balm. I have about five of them that I keep in the kitchen, the car, my purse, the office, etc. A makeup artist taught me a great trick: keep this in your purse and use it as a cream blush for a little color pick-me-up when needed. Works wonderfully! The coral color also doubles as an eye highlighter. There are days when I wear no makeup, but do use this to add a little color to my face … cheeks, lips and lids.”
Best lip crayon
Best lip balm for men
“It’s been extremely dry here in Southern California and it has taken a toll on my poor lips. I was searching for a product that would exfoliate them when I stumbled across this. It provides lasting hydration and has effectively cured my peeling, dry lips. I love me some Burt’s, but Jack Black provides lasting moisture with little gloss. No dude wants globs of gloss-like balm.”
Best medicated lip balm
“Hands-down favorite beauty product! I keep one on my night stand, one in the bathroom, one at my office desk, one in my purse, one in my travel bag … and I’m sure there are others stashed in places I’m not thinking of. It’s a great product if you live in a dry climate. I also use it on my cuticles, scabs, dry patches of skin, and around my nose (when I have a cold, for example). A multipurpose product for sure!”
Best lip balm with SPF
Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment SPF 20 (6-pk)
4.4 stars, 110 reviews
“If you don’t want a lip balm that is fruity, medicine-y, or has some weird bubblegum flavor, the Blistex DCT is a good choice. The balm makes your lips feel soft without the smell or aftertaste you may get from other products. Blistex DCT does have a slight scent, but it is mild and pleasant —not like perfume. I order these Blistex tubs by the dozen and place one wherever it might come in handy.”
“This may have changed my forever-chapped life. I honestly haven’t touched another type of chapstick since I got these and my lips stay moist way, way longer than ever before — honest. The best part is there is not a lot of extraneous residue left on your lips, so I really don’t even notice if I put this on right before smoking a cigarette and I don’t feel like the moisture is gone afterwards, either.”
“I confess I am a lip-licker. I didn’t even realize I was doing it until I started researching what to do about chronically dry lips. The usual lip balms feel thick and artificial, so I bought this. It goes on very smooth and feels slick on my lips without feeling waxy. After using it for just one day I noticed that my lips were much softer. I am thrilled — I have been searching for a long time for something that works and is made from natural ingredients.”
Best overnight lip treatment
“Nothing works as well — I use it almost nightly, and whenever I’m without it, the difference is visible. This stuff does what expensive beauty brands wish they could do: it moisturizes, minimizes signs of aging, and gets my lips ready for the day. And if the weather gets to you, and you somehow wind up with cracked lips anyway, it heals and protects, and is so gentle that you might wonder why you ever used another product.”
Best lip balm for severely chapped lips
“I first purchased this product because I was undergoing Accutane treatment and had dry, cracking, and peeling lips. You have NO idea what miracles this worked for my lips! I’ve now been finished with my Accutane treatment for over a year, now and I STILL won’t use anything else! This product does not have any weird or gross tastes, and I swear I only have to apply it 1-2x/day. SERIOUSLY the BEST lip balm, chapstick, whatever you want to call it.”
I absolutely love this top 10 post! It’s very informative, and descriptive! Reading this definitely has saved me time researching what lip balms I would like to try. I admit, I have never really used lip balm or chapstick- I always thought I didn’t have the need too! However, I’m very intrigued in trying out different balms and brands and after reading this article my shopping list is already complete! I’m going to be picking up the Smith’s Rose Tinted Balm, the Baby Lips, and the Blistex DCT first, followed by the Burt’s Bees (honey) and multiple flavors of the Artnaturals Organic bees wax later on. Thanks again! ?
You’re very welcome!?
