Hey everyone!
Now that we are knee deep into Fall USTA competition, it’s a great time to analyze your match play and red flag any trends that you may need to work on, no matter what level you play. Watching my teams compete, I find that many players have a tendency to “let-up” after winning the first set. Rather than maintaining their drive, they’ll relax after that first set win and play less aggressively. What they don’t realize is that while they are letting up their opponents are starting to dig deep to make a comeback, and soon they find themselves down 3-0 or 4-1 in the second set and going into panic mode. They tighten up and lose confidence, which could cost them the second set, and ultimately the match.
Here are a couple of things you can do to keep a let-up from happening so you can close out more matches!
