Update 7/23: Zendaya’s “Challengers” Film Pushed Back to 2024 Amid SAG-AFTRA Strike
Original: Who knew that a collab between Euphoria and The Crown would result in a tennis dramady? Yet here we are.
From visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, the movie Challengers is a modern rom-com set smack in the middle of the tennis world.
In the trailer for the film, Zendaya appears as up-and-coming tennis star Tashi Duncan. She meets two other young athletes on the circuit, Patrick (Josh O’Connor, The Crown) and Art (Mike Faist, West Side Story), and they quickly get entangled in a threesome.
When Tashi sustains a career-ending injury, Art rushes to her side. She pivots her tennis career to become his coach — and wife.
Tashi transforms him into a Grand Slam champion, but to snap him out of his recent losing streak, she enters him in a ‘Challenger’ event (close to the lowest level of a pro tournament) where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend, Patrick.
The Challengers trailer reveals the plot, but there’s one scene in particular that has people talking. Close your eyes, Tom Holland 🫣.
