Serena Williams last played a professional match at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Unfortunately, she injured her hamstring there and has not returned to the court since. She couldn’t even complete a single set at the US Open which she had entered as one of the favorites.
Even though Williams is recovering from her injury, there are doubts if she will be able to make a comeback this year or not. The American also recently turned 40, which re-invigorated conversations about her retirement.
Tennis legend talks about Serena’s current situation
In episode 8 of the podcast “The GOAT: Serena”, tennis legend Pam Shriver opened up about the current form and situation of Serena. She believes that the 23-time Grand Slam champion is just one injury away from not being able to play ever again.
Yeah, I think, you know, obviously she’s reaching a point where, with what we saw at the Wimbledon, with the slip, the injury, she couldn’t finish Wimbledon. She’s getting to a point where, physically, obviously, she is walking that fine line, where it’s almost one injury away from not being able to continue on and that’s gonna be a difficult day for tennis and obviously for her.

“One of the most interesting people”- Shriver on Serena Williams
In the same podcast, Shriver mentioned that Serena has a number of things to do after her retirement. She highlighted that the former World No.1 is a successful businesswoman and one of the most interesting people that she has known.
The 22-time Grand Slam doubles winner said,
Obviously, she’s a mother, she’s a wife, she’s an entrepreneur, she’s got a venture fund, I believe. She’s interested in business, she’s interested in entertainment. So, it’s like a walking mogul, who happens to be the greatest female tennis player of all time. So, she is one of the most interesting people that I have come in contact with.
Fans really hope that Serena Williams recovers soon and returns to the court quickly. Will she be able to feature at the Australian Open 2022?
